Ta Som Temple

The picturesque, small Ta Som Temple in Angkor gave its name to Ta Som Guesthouse & Tour Services.

Constructed: Late 12th century C.E.

King: Jayavarman VII

Time needed for visit: 30 minutes

Best time to visit: Early morning (for east gopuram), rest of temple anytime

Ta Som Temple gave its name to Ta Som Guesthouse & Tour Services.

Ta Som is a Jayavarman VII temple consisting of a relatively flat enclosure with towers much like the temple Ta Prohm, but on a much smaller scale.

A huge tree grows from the top of the east gopuram (see the picture above, which is our logo).

The tree is destroying the gate, but it is a photo classic.

It is best photographed in the early morning when the sun is low from the outside of the enclosure.

The execution of the apsara carvings is better than many late 12th century works.

Many of the carvings show an uncommon individuality in the faces and bodies (see the foto at the left).

Like the other Jayavarman VII temples (Ta Prohm, Bayon, Preah Khan, Banteay Kdei), Ta Som has the typical face towers on the gopurams (temple towers).

Ta Som Temple has been ideally restored by the World Monuments Fund (WMF), structural stabilization and site improvements started in 1998 (more ...).

As the lovely Ta Som Temple gave its name to our

Ta Som Guesthouse & Tour Services,

this "hidden treasure" is included in all our daytours and packages to Angkor.

No guest of Ta Som Guesthouse will have the right to leave our guesthouse without having seen Ta Som Temple!!!   ;)))
