| Read one of our guest comments: " Dear Mr. Meng, We had an excellent trip - Mr. Pheap was reliable, helpful and courteous, and drove very safely - as he always does. He also seems to know the Banteay Chhmar & Battambang area well. While Banteay Chhmar is a ruin rather than a complete building, it is still a large, explorable site with many superb carvings on the outer walls. I'd say the carvings are as good as you will find at Angkor Wat. There's plenty of adventurous climbing to be done over the fallen stones in the interior of the site - reminded me of Beng Malea. It is also located within a forest, so has a pleasant, green environment. We also visited Banteay Top, a short distance from Banteay Chhmar - it's a much smaller, mostly ruined but very atmospheric Angkor temple and a place where you are almost guaranteed to be the only visitor. There's a tree growing out of the top of one tower that is around 40 metres high - very good for photographs! The road from Siem Reap to Sisophon is good, but the road from Sisophon to Banteay Chhmar is a dirt road, quite badly rutted in parts. It takes at least 2 hours to travel from Sisophon to Banteay Chhmar. I think driving it in a normal car would be difficult." (Jonathan Goacher, Banteay Chhmar tour, november 2010) |
